OFSTED PRAISE FOR CAMDEN SCHOOL

24/05/06

Pupils, staff and parents at Christ Church Primary School in Hampstead are rejoicing after their school was judged ‘outstanding’ in a recent glowing report from Ofsted.

Also, the school received the highest mark for all but one of the categories they were judged on, making it one of the most successful in Camden.

The inspectors made a point of commenting on strong features within the school, most notably, the interesting and exciting after-school activities, the exceptional progress of pupils, their successful results and the effective leadership of management at all levels.

The inspection highlighted the effectiveness of the school, commenting specifically on the above average results, attributing this to the ‘consistent high quality of leadership’ within the school. The Ofsted team particularly praised the ‘strong commitment to developing the whole child’, which they felt pervaded all school life.

Pupil development and well-being was highly commended in the report. Inspectors were struck by the positive and caring attitudes displayed by pupils. Behaviour was graded ‘outstanding’ and the children were described by the report as having ‘confidence in staff to sort out any difficulties’. Teachers are praised for their high-quality care, guidance and support towards all pupils. The views of pupils and parents are regularly sought and analysed to inform the drive for improvement.

Headteacher for Christ Church School Linda Carter said,

“This was a real team effort and I include the pupils and parents when I say that. We have continued to make exceptional progress as a school and I would like to express my thanks to everyone who has contributed to our success. It is a great honour to be judged as outstanding in so many categories. I am thrilled that the whole school community - including the Governors - have been recognised for their hard work.”

Heather Schroeder, Director of Children, Schools and Families at Camden Council added:

“This Ofsted result is a great endorsement of the hard work put in by staff, pupils and governors at Christ Church Primary School and is well deserved by all.”
