Ofqual publishes statistical bulletin into the enquires about results (EAR) service

We have today (Wednesday 7th December) published a statistical bulletin into the Enquires About Results (EAR) service for the summer 2011 examination series.

This report provides details on the number of enquiries about results and the number of changes to candidates' overall subject grades.

During the summer 2011 examination series, more than 2.5 million GCE A level (AS and A level) and more than 5.8 million GCSE qualifications were awarded in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The main findings of the report are as follows:

The number of qualification grades changed as a result of an EAR was 0.45 per cent of all GCSE awards and 0.48 per cent of all GCE awards.

Of the 15 million GCSE and GCE examination scripts, 1.3 per cent of scripts were subject to an EAR.

There were more than 18 million unit entries for examinations and assessments in 2011: a 38 per cent increase compared with 2010. The number of total EARs received by awarding organisations increased by 19 per cent from 2010.

The bulletin covers GCSE and GCE examinations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, provided by the six awarding organisations; AQA, CCEA, Edexcel, ICAAE, OCR and WJEC.
