Ofqual publishes report on National Assessment Arrangements

9 December 2011

We have today (Friday 9 December 2011) published a report reviewing our activities during 2010-11 in relation to National Assessment arrangements for pupils from 5 to 14.

The report covers our annual findings and recommendations in relation to arrangements for statutory assessments undertaken by schools at the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3. It draws its conclusions with reference to a regulatory document published by us earlier this year.

Overall the report concludes that the assessment arrangements for each stage worked smoothly and that the results were generally accurate and reliable in 2011.

It also recognises the large amount of change that schools will need to adjust to in 2012, including the introduction of the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check and a new approach to the assessment of writing at the end of primary school.

We will be watching carefully to ensure that existing standards are maintained and that, where new standards are required, they are set appropriately.
