NUT reacts to David Cameron's article for Daily Telegraph

21 February 2011

Commenting on David Cameron's plans to end the 'state's monopoly' of public services with a forthcoming White Paper, Christine Blower, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, the largest teachers' union, said;

“This zeal for reform has everything to do with dismantling coherent public provision in favour of private profit. It is purely ideological.

“The demonising of local authorities, their 'grip' and the 'damage' done by them, betrays a wilful ignorance of the great benefits they bring.

“What the Prime Minister seeks is nothing short of the end of state education and coherent public services.”
