NSAN triple bar - existing sites launched

The National Skills Academy for Nuclear has launched the Triple Bar –Existing Sites, which is set to become the new 'entrance level' standard for individuals working in or with the nuclear industry.

Developed with industry involvement, the Triple Bar Existing Sites consists of three short courses, Basic Nuclear Induction, Basic Nuclear Industry Context and Basic Nuclear Industry Behaviours. The courses are focused at a fundamental level to introduce the requirements for regulatory and procedural compliance, nuclear awareness and industry behaviours for working in and with the nuclear industry.

The courses aim to ensure that all individuals understand the need to work safely and maintain the safety of their work colleagues, the plants, their equipment and the environment both now and for the future. The Triple Bar Existing Sites has been designed to enable completion within one day, providing an efficient contract commencement, whilst ensuring training to nuclear industry agreed standards.

The Triple Bar Existing Sites is available now and can be completed via the Skills Academy e-Learning portal or via the Skills Academy Quality Assured Providers licensed to deliver the training material.

In the future, the Skills Academy will be launching a Triple Bar for New Build Sites. This is currently in development with EDF Energy and will contextualise the courses for individuals who will be specifically working on the New Reactor Build, and will be ideal for construction workers and contractors to gain the knowledge they need to work with a nuclear safety culture.

"The UK Nuclear Human Performance Forum had the lead role in the development of the Nuclear Industry Behaviours element of the triple bar and nationally (on behalf of the industry) agreed the minimum entry standard for the industry. These behavioural standards enable the industry to drive quality and improvement and support the adoption of the full Triple Bar Standard as the entrance standard across the nuclear industry.

The requirement for skills accreditation in particular for the nuclear supply chain has never been higher. The nuclear industry does have its own very unique set of safety needs and requirements and it is important that standards are raised, ensuring the supply chain has the knowledge, skills and in particular the behaviours and safety culture the sector requires. The Triple Bar will provide industry with confidence that staff and contractors have the understanding of the sector and its safety culture to maintain our high standards of safe and effective working.”
