NIA welcomes positive polling results

18 January 2012

The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) welcomed today's publication of a poll by Ipsos MORI assessing UK public opinion of nuclear energy.

The poll, which builds on earlier polls commissioned by the NIA, covers the results of a public survey conducted during December 2011 and clearly shows that following a dip after the Fukushima accident in March 2011 public support for nuclear energy has recovered to 2010 levels. The face-to-face methodology as well as the questions have remained consistent with surveys in previous years providing an accurate trend with past data.

NIA Chief Executive Keith Parker said:

"The poll clearly shows that public opinion has not only recovered from last summers dip but it has also resumed its gradual year-on-year improvement. The 50% support figure for new build is the highest it has ever been."

The full report can be found on the Ipsos MORI website.
