Kentish Town residents have been invited to a day of children’s entertainment, music and story-telling on Saturday, 22 April, to mark the completion of refurbishment work.

Kentish Town Library opens its doors to the public on Tuesday, 18 April after a four-month long, £450,000 refurbishment. To mark the occasion, a celebration event has been planned for the following Saturday.

The council undertook the project to bring the building up to date for the 21st century, making it modern, light and airy, with better presentation of books, CDs and DVDs.

It includes a new look for the front of the building, additional meeting and study space on a mezzanine level, a dedicated area for young people and improved access for the disabled.

User groups and library staff were consulted throughout the design process to ensure that the new interior would be practical as well as attractive.

Camden Council’s Assistant Director for Culture, Fiona Dean, said: “Kentish Town Library is one of the most popular libraries in Camden, and now with this refurbishment, it is one of the most modern and up to date too. I hope the improvements will help attract people that, up until now, wouldn’t have entered a library.”
