New Bloom For The Countryside

18 May 2006

Countryside campaigners CPRE [1] are celebrating their 80th anniversary with the launch on Monday 22 May of a new rose variety – Rural England. [2]

Developed by top Norfolk-based grower Peter Beales, the new rose – a profuse pink rambler – is being launched at the Chelsea Flower Show by CPRE Chairman Sir Nigel Thompson. [3]

Roses have a long association with England’s diverse and beautiful countryside, growing wild in hedgerows as dog roses for hundreds of years and smothering many a cottage garden in blossom and scent.

The new variety will be sold to CPRE’s members and supporters at a special price of £12.00 [4], with profits from those sales going straight to the organisation’s campaigning work.

CPRE Chief Executive Shaun Spiers said: ‘We’re delighted to have teamed up with Peter Beales in launching this lovely new rose as part of our 80th Anniversary celebrations.

‘We hope it will ramble on for many years to come, celebrating the hard work of CPRE’s thousands of volunteers in campaigning for the protection of England’s fantastic countryside for everyone’s benefit.’
