More Rotary Flood Disaster Appeal Projects announced
January 8th 2008
Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland announce today the third batch of projects to be allocated funding from the Rotary Flood Disaster Appeal. Monies distributed through the appeal also include those raised from Fashion For Relief, a charity fashion show organised by Naomi Campbell, which was a smashing success and grand finale to London Fashion Week.
Priority has been given to sustainable community based projects and community recovery activities. In this third tranche more than £112,000 has been allocated and includes the following projects:
• To restore childrens playground at Longlevens, Gloucester £16,000***
• To replace equipment at Tewkesbury Youth Centre £4,014
• To upgrade drains and pipes at Hop Skip and Jump Day Centre, Cheltenham £4,500
• To replace equipment at St David’s Primary School, Moreton in The Marsh £3,570
• To re-equip Severn,Stoke and Croome D’Abitot village hall, Evesham £5,000
• To replace instruments for Upton Youth Band, Upton on Severn £5,000
• To replace equipment for juniors at Evesham Cricket Club £2,860
• To re-furbish Clanfield Village Hall, Clanfield, Oxfordshire £5,000
• To replace books in 14 Primary School Libraries in Hull £35,000
• To restore pitches at TollBar ARLFC, Doncaster £10,000
• To replace carpets in Ainsthorpe Primary School Library £1000
• To replace Oughtibridge War Memorial Sports Club £5,000
• To repair Darton Scout Hut, Barnsley £5,000
• To repair and re-equip Samaritans premises, Hull £11,000
This brings the total allocated to date to more than £612,000 The Rotary Flood Disaster Appeal raised over £300,000* and this has been augmented by a further £ 600,000 of funds raised by the Fashion for Relief fashion show with more donations still coming through.
Naomi Campbell said, "I am thrilled with the results of this year's Fashion For Relief, and thank all those who contributed in supporting these communities affected by the floods."
Allan Jagger President Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland said, "We launched this appeal to help relieve the hardship of the victims of the recent flooding. Rotary is very grateful for the generosity of the public. I am delighted that we are able to support these projects announced today in response to the needs of the local communities affected by the floods. Further projects are being regularly evaluated and the fund will respond quickly as more money is released."

• Replace reserves of cleaning materials used by Real Aid in Hull and East Riding to assist home owners with clean up and assist with on-going supply £13,000
• To provide equipment lost in floods to Thorpe Park Primary School, Holderness £41,150
• To restore playground area Toll Bar Primary School, Doncaster £7,500
• Contribution to replace extra curriculum books to Kilnhurst Primary School, Rotherham £4000
• To help restore The Chill Out Zone for young people at Newent, Gloucestershire £7000
• To clean up and repair the Gloucestershire Scout Council area at Cranham, Gloucestershire £3896.96
• Contribution to help replace Christmas Street Lights in Tewkesbury £15,000
• Replace rescue boat and Land Rover for Severn Area Rescue association £27,473
• To restore and upgrade the childrens’ playground at Longlevens, Gloucester £20,000
• To restore village hall and kitchen at Longford, Gloucester £6000
• To provide a Portakabin for Clanfield Pre -School, Oxfordshire £8,000**
• To restore the Kidz First garden at Bewdley, Worcestershire £15,400
* This includes £140,000 raised in two local Rotary District appeals
** The funding for Clanfield Pre-School has been reduced to £2000 as they have been able to return to their original premises
*** This is an additional £16,000 making a total allocation of £36,000
