MCLOUGHLIN RETAINS TOP SPOT IN CELEBRITY SHOPPER STAKES

22 August 2005

At the end of the third week of voting for the British Retail Consortium's Celebrity Shopper of the Year Award, Colleen McLoughlin is still number one, topping the polls with members of the public.

McLoughlin has managed to hold onto the top spot with 27% of the votes (20% week 2) and extend her lead over second placed Abi Titmuss who currently has 20% of the votes (17% week 2).

However at the other end of the race, Sharon Osborne, current star of 'The X-Factor' is currently last in the polls, holding only 4% of the votes.

BRC Director General, Kevin Hawkins says: "Colleen has done well in the last week to not only maintain her lead but also to extend it. Abi's fans will have to keep busy voting if they want her to take the crown.

"However, it is worth bearing in mind what starring in a reality TV show can do for people's popularity. I would not put it past the 'Queen of Darkness' Sharon Osborne to rocket ahead in the stakes this week with the start of 'The X-Factor'."

Members of the public have from 1 - 31 August to vote for their celebrity shopper via the website: http://www.brc.org.uk/celebrityshopper

The celebrities on this year's short list are:

  1. Abi Titmuss
  2. Bono
  3. Colleen McLoughlin
  4. David Beckham
  5. Jamie Oliver
  6. Ruby Wax
  7. Sharon Osborne
  8. Sienna Miller
  9. Trinny & Susannah (2004 winners)
  10. Victoria Beckham

The winner will be announced at the BRC's glamorous Retail Annual Dinner on 21 September, in front of 1,300 guests including Government ministers, MPs and the country's top retailers.
