Press Release

Local traders championed by Which?

2 March 2009

Consumer recommendation website Which? Local has launched a series of awards to recognise the UK's best local businesses.

Last month, independent retailers took four of the top ten places in Which?'s survey of its members' favourite high street shops. Now Which? is asking its members to tell it about local traders in a variety of sectors - from grocers to plumbers, computer repairers to garden centres - that provide a great service or go the extra mile for their customers.

Traders that are recommended by Which? members before 6 April 2009 will be in with a chance of winning a regional or national award, and one business will be named Which? Local Trader of the Year at an awards ceremony in June.

Which? Local was set up in 2007 so that Which? members could recommend local service providers to each other, and currently has more than 17,000 recommendations.

Pete Tynan from Which? Local, says:

"Whether you're having a new bathroom fitted or getting your car serviced, one of the best ways to find a reliable local trader is to get a recommendation from a satisfied customer. Times are tough for small businesses, so it's more important then ever that unsung heroes get the recognition they deserve."
