LGA responds to child exploitation action plan

23 November 2011

Responding to the launch of the Government's Tackling Child Sexual Exploitation Action Plan, Cllr David Simmonds, Chairman of the Local Government Association's Children and Young People Programme Board, said:

"The exploitation of children by street gangs or anyone else has no place in society. All councils take their child protection responsibilities seriously and have a strong record of working with local partners such as the police, schools and health services to protect vulnerable children.

“The LGA will work with councils to make sure the expertise that exists on preventing exploitation and tracking down perpetrators is shared across the country. Raising awareness amongst parents and carers will also help to bring more prosecutions and get justice for victims."
