Press Release

LGA pays tribute to Sir Simon Milton

12 April 2011

Responding to the news that Sir Simon Milton, former Chairman of the Local Government Association, has passed away, Baroness Margaret Eaton, the LGA's current Chairman, said:

“Everyone in local government will be very saddened by the news that Simon has passed away. He was a hugely talented public servant who commanded immense respect across the political spectrum.

“Simon made a tremendous contribution to the LGA and the sector as a whole as chairman and, before that, as chairman of our Improvement Board. It has always been a privilege to succeed him. He was one of the most innovative and forward thinking council leaders of modern times, and brought the same skills and experience to his role at City Hall.

“Not only was Simon an inspiring colleague, he was also a great friend. He will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure to work with him. Our thoughts are with his partner Robert and their family.”
