Launch of children’s club rewards

November 2008

The Insulin Dependent Diabetes Trust (IDDT) announced that it is launching its new Children’s Club ‘goodie’ bag at the Cedar Road Primary School, Cedar Road East Northampton NN3 2JF on Tuesday 4 November at 2 o’clock.

Aimed at primary school children, this ‘goodie’ bag is intended to be a special treat for children with diabetes and their brothers and sisters.

Head of the Children’s Club, Bev Freeman commented, ‘through no fault of their own, children with Type 1 diabetes have to cope with multiple insulin injections each day and blood tests to control their diabetes. I’ve had diabetes since I was a child and I know how tedious this can be – but it has to be done to stay alive, so there’s no argument, it’s something that you just have to get on and do each day. But I do think that kids deserve some kind of treat for coping so well – so the ‘goodie’ bag is our way of doing this.’

The bag is full of useful things including, a ruler, pencils, pencil case, a drinks bottle, a stress pig all promoted with our new fluffy children’s club mascot. All children with diabetes and their brothers and sisters are entitled to receive a bag.

Bev continued, ‘We’re launching a ‘Hall of Fame’ on our website where parents and friends and relatives can nominate a child for their achievements.
This achievement can be for the child managing to do their first injection on their own, or their first blood test or any other worthy achievement. We want to make sure that every child with diabetes gets the recognition that they deserve and receive a certificate of achievement.’

The ‘goodie bag’ will support IDDT’s activities. This includes free information such as a quarterly Parents Bulletin that is full of tips to help parents cope and the Care Line that offers support and advice for everyone living with diabetes
