KEYNOTE SPEAKER SECURED FOR RETAIL EVENT OF THE YEAR

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has secured the Rt. Hon. Alun Michael MP, Minister of State for Industry and the Regions, as the Keynote Speaker for its glamorous Annual Retail Industry Dinner - to be held at the Grosvenor Hotel in London on 21 September 2005.

Alun Michael MP, responsible for supporting successful enterprise, has been the Labour and Co-operative MP for Cardiff South and Penarth since 1987. He was Deputy Home Secretary 1997-98, Secretary of State for Wales 1998-99, First Secretary of the National Assembly for Wales 1999-2000, and 2000 and Minister for Rural Affairs 2001-2005.

Sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland, the BRC's Annual Retail Industry Dinner is hailed as one of the most important events in the retail calendar. Over 1300 decision makers from the retail sector, government and commercial arena attend the event.

BRC Director general, Kevin Hawkins, commented: "We are very happy Alun Michael has agreed to be the keynote speaker at the biggest retail event of the year. His enterprise growth and business sector remit maker him ideal for the role."

Rory Bremner, top comedian and political impressionist has been confirmed as the After Dinner Speaker.
