IfL members recognised in New Year honours list

4 January 2012

Three members of the Institute for Learning (IfL) have been recognised in the 2012 New Year honours list:

· IfL fellow Denise Rowland, formerly head of the school of early years, health and social care at New College Durham, has been appointed MBE for services to further education

· IfL member Dr Anne Murdoch, principal at Newbury College, has been appointed OBE for services to further education

· IfL affiliate Dawn Stoddart, Learndirect Outstanding Learner of the Year 2010, has been appointed MBE for services to further education.

IfL's deputy chief executive, Lee Davies, said, “We are pleased that IfL members, who show their dedication to excellent teaching and training through continuing membership of their professional body, have been honoured in this way. We offer our congratulations to them and to all those who were recognised for contributions to adult and further education, training, vocational education, specialist teaching for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, and the voluntary sector.

"We believe, however, that there are many more outstanding teachers and trainers in our sector who should be recognised in the twice-yearly honours lists for transforming lives and for making an enormous contribution to the economic and social well-being of this country. To facilitate this, IfL can help prepare nominations, and we welcome suggestions about outstanding teachers and trainers for consideration."
