HELP FOR DRIVERS TO AVOID PARKING TICKETS AND THE UNDERSTAND THE RULES

Monday 11 September 2006

Drivers on Camden’s busy roads are being reminded how to steer clear of a parking ticket and how to stick to the parking rules - with a new leaflet.

The booklet is called Penalty Charge Notices, Your Options: how to pay, appeal or avoid a fine. It offers tips on how to avoid getting a parking ticket in the first place and explains:

· why the council issues parking tickets

· how to pay a fine if you’ve received one

· how to challenge a ticket you believe was issued incorrectly

· how the independent parking and traffic appeals system works

The section on avoiding a parking ticket includes a clear explanation of waiting restrictions such as single and double yellow lines, and how to identify restrictions on using residents’ and Pay and Display bays. It also directs drivers to a full list of parking offences that can be checked on the council’s website.

Cllr Mike Greene, Executive Member for Environment, Camden Council, said:

“Camden Council wants to listen to residents and give them a fair deal on parking, and this includes improving our parking system to make it fairer and clearer. These leaflets are one step towards helping make the system easier for people to understand.”

The leaflets are now available at council buildings including the Town Hall, libraries and Environment Locals as well as on the council website at: www.camden.gov.uk/parking

Camden Council has also published an illustrated leaflet about parking in busy Kentish Town Road, to help drivers steer clear of parking fines and understand the simplified parking controls in the area. In the future, the council plans to offer similar guides for other parts of the borough, following public consultation.
