Government 'must act' on CLG report

21 December 2011

Hilary Allison, Woodland Trust policy director, said: "It is essential the government acts on today's CLG Select Committee report, which advises the default answer of 'yes' to development be removed from the final NPPF. It also highlights that the current draft too often confuses sustainable development with economic growth, and calls for more clarity and consistency to ensure a comprehensive and less ambiguous document.

"One of the best ways for government to act on the Committee's call to address consistency would be to remove the loophole contained in the proposals that threatens the very existence of ancient woodland, our equivalent of the rainforest."
