GMB welcomes Labour commitments

12 April 2010

Labour election manifesto gives voters many good reasons to vote Labour says GMB.

GMB today responded to the launch of the Labour Party 2010 election manifesto.

Paul Kenny GMB General Secretary said "This manifesto gives voters many good reasons to vote Labour. GMB welcomes the commitments on the NMW, Gangmasters, corporate takeovers and on pub tenants

A National Minimum Wage rising at least in line with average earnings offers more protection for the lowest paid.

Extending Gangmasters licensing to the construction industry will help rid the industry of rogue employment agencies.

Whilst the new rules on company takeovers will encourage long term investment, reducing unfettered greed of hedge funds and private equity firms.

GMB welcomes the commitment to end the pub tie (See Note below). Pub customers now have an opportunity to vote to end the tie and secure a fairer deal for themselves, the pub tenants and their local communities.

GMB pub tenant members can claim the credit for securing this progressive commitment in Labour's election manifesto.

There will be hustings election meetings across the country and GMB member will be asking candidates from other parties where they stand on these issues."
