GLOBAL PACKAGING STANDARD TRANSLATED FOR CZECH REPUBLIC

22 August 2005

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has today announced it will be releasing a Czech translation of its groundbreaking Global Standard - Food Packaging and Global Standard - Food Packaging and other Packaging Materials.

The Czech translated Standard is for companies who deal with speakers of either the Czech or Slovakian languages, enabling them to work more effectively with their suppliers.

The globally recognised BRC/IoP Packaging Standard sets a benchmark for best practice across the packaging industry and compliance with the Standard helps product manufacturers to purchase with confidence.

BRC Head of Technical Services, Kevin Swoffer said: "As the global reach of the BRC Standards increases, we have recognised the need to publish appropriate Global Standards in languages that will assist suppliers outside the UK.

"The publishing of the Czech version is a significant development as it extends best practice into the growing Eastern European market."

The Standard is most applicable to manufactures of food packaging for retailers' own labelled products and branded products. Manufactures have an obligation to put into place appropriate systems and controls to ensure the suitability of their packaging for safe food use.

Since its introduction in 2001, the Standard has become the benchmark by which suppliers are assessed and their levels of competency measured against.
