Press Release

Gavin English is new chairman of ACE International Business Group

10th February 2009

Leading construction industry business association, the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE), has named Gavin English, managing director of WSP International Management Consulting, as the new chairman of the ACE International Business Group. English takes over from Geoff French who is now ACE's chairman.

ACE's International Business Group brings together representatives of leading consultancy and engineering firms active internationally to set ACE's agenda for dealing with key international clients and financial institutions and to develop the organisation's business programme for the benefit of ACE members in selected international markets. 2009 will be a big year for ACE's international activities with the organisation hosting the annual conference of FIDIC, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, in London from 13-16 September.

Commenting on his new role, English said:

"I am delighted to be taking over as chairman of the International Business Group at a time when many ACE members are looking for overseas opportunities to help bolster their UK order books. Infrastructure is the foundation as well as the key to economic development for the new growth markets and despite the economic slow down the emerging economies will continue to grow at a rate which far outstrips developed economies.

"It is infrastructure development that will underpin the growth. UK engineering businesses are well positioned to get involved and ACE's International Business Group looks forward to assisting members and advising them on the opportunities, issues and challenges they face in the international markets."

ACE chief executive Nelson Ogunshakin said:

"Gavin's wide experience of the international consultancy market will be invaluable in his new role with ACE and I am very much looking forward to working with him during the months and years ahead."
