FSB Meet Economy Minister

21 December 2005

Representatives of the Federation of Small Businesses have today met the Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Investment, Angela Smith MP at their new offices in Royal Avenue.

Wilfred Mitchell, FSB Policy Chair & John Friel, FSB Regional Chair said:

“We had an extremely productive meeting with the Minister, covering key areas of Business Costs, Training, Education and the Review of Public Administration”

“At the meeting we stressed concerns about the high cost of doing business in Northern Ireland, particularly insurance, energy and the introduction of water charges and urged the Minister to continue to make all of these issues a top priority if the Private Sector is to grow”

“The Minister shares our vision of an education system which produces school leavers who have the right skills that the business community needs”

“It is of grave concern to us that 25% of our school leavers have poor numercy and literacy skills which will never help us create a world class economy.”
