Four in five voters agree TV ads for junk food should be stopped

People across Britain want food companies to stop marketing and promoting unhealthy foods to children. NICK STACE, Which? Director of Campaigns and Communications, will tell politicians today at the Conservative Party Conference to listen to the public and take action.

Which? questioned more than two thousand people aged 18+ about the marketing of unhealthy food to children:
> 4 in 5 (80%) agree that TV advertisements for unhealthy food should not be allowed during the times that children are most likely to be watching TV

> 9 in 10 (91%) agree food companies need to be more responsible in the way that they market food to children

Speaking during a conference debate on Marketing to Children, Nick Stace said: “If political parties want to champion issues that matter to the public then an end to the marketing of unhealthy food to children is a first step.

“Thousands have joined the Which? campaign to force food companies to act more responsibly and this latest poll shows that this is a significant issue to the electorate –with the majority wanting an end to the promotion of unhealthy foods to kids. Politicians ignore this at their peril.”
