FAIRER SYSTEM FOR APPLYING TO HIGHER EDUCATION

22 May 2006

The Professional Association of Teachers (PAT) has welcomed the UK Education Ministers' statement on providing a fairer system for applying to higher education.

PAT General Secretary Philip Parkin said: “PAT welcomes both the proposals and the co-operation between the Ministers in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

“Reforming the admissions system in this way is a sensible move that will allow students and universities to make informed decisions. A post-qualifications application (PQA) system would be fairer and more accurate for both students and universities.

“Students will be spared a great deal of stress and the administration of applications to higher education will be simplified.

“PAT looks forward to taking part in the further consultations on this issue.”
