Experts to overhaul the adoption system with new processes for prospective parents

22 December 2011

Director of Children's Services at Action for Children, Hugh Thornbery, responded to the news from Children's minister Tim Loughton that delays are preventing potential parents from completing their adoption.

He said: "If you look at the system as a whole, there's far too much delay. The longer it takes to place a child in adoption the greater the chances the placement will not work out.

"The focus needs to be on ensuring we approve the right people but also trying to ensure it's done as quickly as possible and as safely as possible."
