David Blunkett MP visits Burngreave children's centre

2 September 2010

Former Education Secretary David Blunkett MP today (Thursday 2 September) saw first hand the hard work being carried out at Action for Children’s Burngreave Children’s Centre in Sheffield.

During a visit to the centre the MP for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough had the opportunity to speak to midwives, who provide ante-natal and post-natal care and support, and staff from the breast feeding peer support service before meeting parents and children.

Mr Blunkett said: "As the politician responsible for developing the original Sure Start programmes, together with the development of childcare and nursery provision over a decade ago, I am deeply committed to protecting and promoting these essential family and children's facilities."

Amanda Boughton-Brown, Action for Children’s Implementation Manager, said: “We enjoyed showing Mr Blunkett around the centre and explaining how we work with our partners in the local authority and health service to provide a really important community resource to families across the Burngreave area.”
