Dame Clare Tickell comments on the anniversary of the spending review

19 October 2011

Chief Executive of Action for Children, Dame Clare Tickell:

"The Government must encourage local authorities to hold their ground, look forward and ensure that services which help vulnerable children, young people and families are made a priority. To avoid high social and financial costs further down the line, local authorities must focus on support services, including children's centres and family intervention projects, which not only stop problems from spiralling out of control but also tackle deep-rooted, intergenerational cycles of deprivation and neglect.

"A year on from the Spending Review, prioritising investment in early intervention services, which are proved to have enormous social and financial benefits to communities across the UK, must continue. The policy framework is in place, it is time to action it."
