COLEEN WINS CELEBRITY SHOPPER AWARD HANDS DOWN

22 September 2005

After a month of public voting for the Celebrity Shopper of the Year Award, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) is pleased to announce that this year’s winner is Coleen McLoughlin, nicknamed the ‘Queen of Chav’.

Coleen fought off fierce competition from the early days of voting to beat the nine other contenders hands down, with 38% of the public voting in her favour. Nearest rival Abi Titmuss received 16% of the votes, and in third place was Sienna Miller with 10% of the votes.

BRC Director General, Kevin Hawkins, says: “Coleen is clearly a winner in the public’s eyes. Not only does she spend a significant amount of money on clothes, but she has also created a style of her own that is both attractive and achievable to young people.

“From the end of week one, Coleen has not only held off the other contenders, but she has also slowly grown her lead, beating last year’s winners Trinny & Susannah and school dinner hero, Jamie Oliver.

“We were however, surprised at the number of votes Sharon Osborne received, as we expected with her involvement in the ‘X-factor’ that we would see a last minute rush of votes for the ‘First Lady of Rock’.”

Final placings for the Celebrity Shopper of the Year Award for 2005 are:

  1. Coleen McLoughlin
  2. Abi Titmuss
  3. Sienna Miller
  4. Bono
  5. Victoria Beckham
  6. Jamie Oliver
  7. Ruby Wax
  8. Trinny & Susannah
  9. (equal placing) David Beckham & Sharon Osborne

The winner was announced at the BRC’s glamorous Retail Annual Dinner held last night, in front of 1,300 guests including Government ministers, MPs and the country’s top retailers.
