CMI joins new Strategic Board overseeing development of national occupational standards

      27 May 2010

The UK Commission for Employment and Skills has announced new arrangements for developing the pan sector standards which cover enterprise, management and leadership, administration, industrial relations, customer services, marketing and sales and languages.

The Council for Administration (CfA) will act as the lead body working closely with the CMI, other leading professional bodies and key partners*.

CMI will be a member of the CfA's new Strategic Board overseeing its work, and will provide knowledge and expertise to support the future development of management and leadership standards.

The CMI's Management Standards Centre will continue to promote and support the use of the National Occupational Standards, through its best practice case studies, toolkits and website.

As a leading Awarding Body delivering thousands of management and leadership qualifications each year, CMI will also support the work of CfA's Awarding Body Forum alongside the Institute of Leadership and Management, Edexcel and others ensure the development of standards supports qualifications that meet employer and individual needs.

Ruth Spellman, chief executive of the CMI, comments "We are very pleased to support the work of the Council for Administration in its work on behalf of the UKCES on the future development of the National Occupational Standards. As the leading authority on management and leadership in the UK and the only Chartered body with this responsibility, CMI looks forward to playing its full role in raising management and leadership standards across the UK".
