Chief executive departure

17 August 2011

Chartered Management Institute (CMI) announces today that with immediate effect its Chief Executive, Ruth Spellman, has decided to leave the organisation and pursue new career opportunities.

Ruth has been Chief Executive for three years and in that time has overseen a return to growth in membership, a successful rebranding and profile raising programme, the launch of Campus CMI, the development of new partnerships and a renewal of CMI's status as a leading professional body, setting the agenda for managers and leaders and influencing government policy.

Whilst at CMI, Ruth has chaired the Careers Professional Alliance, which aims to create a consistent set of standards across the careers sector. She will continue with this work after leaving CMI. Ruth has also recently authored a book for CMI called 'Managers and Leaders Who Can' which sets out the vital ingredients for being a successful manager and leader in the new economy.

Ruth says: “It has been an enormous privilege to lead CMI through a major change programme during challenging economic times.”

Christopher Kinsella has been appointed as the interim Chief Executive and will work with the existing director team. Christopher has recently served for four years on the Board of CMI as a Trustee and Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee and is a seasoned Finance Director, Chief Financial Officer and board member with a pedigree of operational, corporate and international finance roles in blue-chip UK and USA organisations; TI Plc, GE (USA), GEC Marconi, Meggitt Plc, Burton Group and Coopers & Lybrand.
