CELEBRITY SHOPPER VOTING IS NECK AND NECK

5 August 2005

As week one draws to a close for the public voting of the British Retail Consortium's (BRC) Celebrity Shopper of the Year Award, voting for the top four places is neck and neck.

Fighting it out for first place are the two 'Queens' - 'Queen of Boho' Sienna Miller and 'Queen of Chav' Colleen McLoughlin.

Not to be outdone by the women, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and U2 front man Bono are fighting it out for third place.

BRC Director General, Kevin Hawkins, says: "It is not surprising that the public are recognising the significant contribution that Sienna Miller and Colleen McLoughlin make to the fashion industry. Their trends are followed by millions of women across the UK.

"However, the race for third place is far more interesting to watch. School dinner hero Jamie Oliver has made a big impression on the food we buy, but U2 front man Bono has made sure that the ipod is our MP3 player of choice."

The celebrities on this year's short list are:

  1. Abi Titmuss
  2. Bono
  3. Colleen McLoughlin
  4. David Beckham
  5. Jamie Oliver
  6. Ruby Wax
  7. Sharon Osborne
  8. Sienna Miller
  9. Trinny & Susannah (2004 winners)
  10. Victoria Beckham

Members of the public have from 1 - 31 August to register their votes via the website: http://www.brc.org.uk/celebrityshopper

The winner will be announced at the BRC's glamorous Retail Annual Dinner on 21 September, in front of 1,300 guests including Government ministers, MPs and the country's top retailers.
