CAMDEN’S GEMS UNCOVERED ON TWO WHEELS

25 June 2007

DOZENS of people discovered the gems of Camden at the weekend by taking part in a free bike ride around the borough.

The Bike ALL event kicked off at the Town Hall in Judd Street yesterday (June 24) and then set off to explore some of Camden’s well-loved buildings and open spaces.

Highlights included visiting St Pancras Eurostar station, Kenwood House, Highgate Village and Queen’s Crescent market.

Camden’s sustainability task force, the Camden cycling campaign and safer neighbourhood police teams jointly organised the 22-mile ride as a finale to national bike week.

More than 20 people took part in the bike ride, which took in all of Camden’s 18 wards.

Cllr Mike Greene, Camden Council’s executive member for environment, said:

“This is a fantastic event and I hope it will not only encourage people to leave their car at home and hop on a cycle, but to realise what a fabulous way cycling is to enjoy all that Camden has to offer. I would like to thank all those who have worked tirelessly to bring this event to fruition.”

It is hoped to make the ride an annual event. For more information on cycling in Camden visit www.camdencyclists.org.uk
