The biennial Over-50s Festival for Camden residents is back and will be bigger and better than before. The five-day event organised by Camden Council together with Age Concern Camden will have lots of activities for older people to try out. The festival also aims to help residents find out more about what’s available in Camden for them and give them the chance to meet new people and have fun.

Each day of the festival has a theme from health and healthy living and fun and celebration. Activities include mosaic-making, Tai Chi, dance, swimming, healthy walks, garden parties, massage, fashion shows and a five-a-side football competition.

Cllr Dawn Somper, Camden Older People’s Champion, will launch the festival on Monday 11 September. She will reveal her daring side by scaling the new climbing wall at Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre. The final day of the festival, will see the Swiss Cottage Complex taken over for exclusive use by the over-50s, including free exercise classes, an over-50s five-a-side football tournament and dance sessions.

Cllr Somper said: “The Over 50s festival is back by popular demand and it’s bigger and better than ever. There really is something for everyone, from Tai Chi, dance and sport to mosaic-making and advice on staying healthy and looking after yourself. So go and try something different - as I will when I try out the climbing wall - and have some fun. ”

The themes for each day are:

  • Monday 11 September Health and Healthy Living
  • Tuesday 12 September Activities and Sports
  • Wednesday 13 September Information and Advice
  • Thursday 14 September Culture and Arts
  • Friday 15 September Fun and Celebration
