CAMDEN COUNCIL TEAM WINS MAJOR TRANSPORT CONTRACT

9 February 2007

The Camden Consultancy Service has won Transport for London (TfL)’s contract to provide support for its day to day management of some of central London’s busiest roads.

The team saw off tough competition in a tendering process against several national private transport consultancies to win the contract, which was awarded on 22 December 2006. Camden Consultancy Service is part of the council’s Culture and Environment department.

The contract is worth up to £8 million and will run for two years, from 7 February 2007, and may be extended to four on agreement. If any surplus is generated from consultancy design services, it could be invested in individual projects on Camden’s streets and improving the quality of the Camden Consultancy Service as a whole. Camden Consultancy engineers and technicians will support TfL managing its highways maintenance contractor. Camden staff will provide an audit service that offers clarity in the monitoring and measurement of the quality of services provided by the contractor.

Under this new contract, the Camden Consultancy team will support TfL in managing an expanded network of TfL red route roads in the Central London area. These include red routes in Camden, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Southwark, City of London, Wandsworth, Westminster, Hackney and Tower Hamlets.

Cllr Mike Greene, Executive Member for Environment, Camden Council, said:

“The award of this valuable contract from Transport for London is a vote of confidence in the abilities of Camden Council staff. The team is looking forward to the challenges in delivering a well-managed network of complex and busy roads in Central London.”

Chris Connor, TfL Director of Road Network Management, said:

“The award of this new contract to Camden will provide TfL with reliable support in delivering world class highway assets suitable for London and Londoners.”
