CAMDEN APPOINTS NEW HEAD OF CULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT 07/296

Camden Council today announced the appointment of Rachel Stopard as the new Director of Culture and Environment. Ms Stopard will oversee many vital council services and departments including planning, street management, regeneration and public protection.

Ms Stopard has had a varied career in local government, most recently as Director of Communities and Partnerships in Essex County Council, which included responsibility for economic development, community planning and culture.

In 2000, she joined Suffolk County Council, where in her role as Assistant Director (Corporate Services) she contributed towards Suffolk winning the prestigious LGC Council of the Year Award. She later joined East Herts Council as Executive Director, Head of Paid Service.

Cllr Keith Moffitt, Leader, Camden Council said: “We are delighted to have Rachel on board to oversee this very busy directorate. Camden needs people like Rachel with a proven track record of achievement and a drive to make a positive difference to the services a large borough like Camden delivers.”

Camden Council Chief Executive Moira Gibb said: “Rachel brings with her a wealth of experience to Camden. This is a very important role within the Council and Rachel has an excellent balance of skills and knowledge to really take the directorate forward and meet the future challenges.”

Ms Stopard, who will take up the position in September, said: “I'm thrilled to take on this position at Camden. Not only is it a council with a strong track record and excellent reputation, but this must be one of the most exciting jobs in local government. I'm looking forward to joining the team and leading on services that make a difference now and for the future, not only to the day to day lives of residents but also to the thousands of people visiting Camden every day."
