“Business Community Will Welcome the RPA” - FSB

22 November 2005

Northern Irelands largest business organisation, the Federation of Small Businesses has given a broad welcome to this morning’s announcement by the Secretary of State, Peter Hain on the Review of Public Administration.

Wilfred Mitchell, FSB Policy Chairman said:

“The business community will welcome many aspects of this announcement, particularly the new streamlined system of public administration which we hope will deliver services in a cost effective way and contribute to economic development”

“We welcome the fact that we are to have seven new local councils with further powers including economic development. However we will be pressing for Invest Northern Ireland to locate their regional offices in each of the new seven council areas and develop a new relationship with them to ensure that our economy will prosper”

“It was also positive that the Government are now planning to look at the number of departments and their functions following this review. We have always said that all aspects of Public Administration should be included in this review to ensure that we get it right”

“The FSB is pleased that many of the proposals in our submission to the RPA have been taken up and as an organisation we will scrutinise in great detail this plan and its implementation”

“Following today’s developments the Federation of Small Businesses can announce that we will be re-organising our own branch structure to ensure that we have a new co-ordinated relationship with the new structures.”
