BRC SHOP PRICE INDEX SEPTEMBER 2005: PRICES STILL LOW BUT SPENDING SLOW

The BRC Shop Price Index (SPI) inflation rate for September showed that prices are 0.54% higher than at this time last year. The overall index stands at 101.67, compared to 101.12 in September 2004.

Food prices are up 2.38% compared to last year, while the price of non-food items showed a decrease of 0.59% compared to this time last year.

Overall shop prices in September showed an increase of 0.98% from August, the main driver being the increase in food prices due to seasonal price fluctuations.
