BRC SHOP PRICE INDEX - NOVEMBER 2005

The BRC Shop Price Index (SPI) inflation rate for November showed that prices are 0.80% lower than at this time last year, the lowest rate since January 2005. The overall index stands at 101.13, compared to 101.93 in November 2004.The price of non-food items showed a year-on-year decline for the sixth consecutive month. Non-food prices are now 1.64% lower than last year.

Food prices are up 0.53% against November 2004, the lowest year-on-year increase in the last twelve months.

Overall, shop prices in November increased by 0.43% from October, driven by a rise of 1.22% in the price of non-food items. This was offset by food prices declining by 0.91%, the largest month-on-month decrease since December 2003.
