BRC response to volunteering vision and fund

“The government's recognition that volunteers have a key role to play in supporting and strengthening health and care services has to be welcomed.

“The provision of funding to support volunteering is a vital acknowledgement of the added social value volunteers can bring, and that, although volunteers are unpaid, volunteering is not a free commodity and requires investment.

“As a voluntary organisation we know that it is regular and continuous volunteering which delivers the most social value and best return on investment.

“To deliver regular and continuous volunteering, funding too must be long term and predictable, enabling organisations to invest in their volunteers and plan for the future.

“Volunteering should be accessible to all and, through developing skills and social interaction for example, it benefits volunteers themselves as well as those they are directly helping.”
