BRC Director General, Kevin Hawkins, commented:

"Whilst Dads still don't quite outdo Mums on Mother's Day, Father's Day is becoming a more important day in the UK as it's the perfect opportunity to thank our Dads and show them how much they mean to us.

"Most Dads will be opening the usual gifts of socks, ties, CD's, gadgets and tools this Sunday and for many it will be an important family day. But it is also another important date in the retail calendar as special days and events usually bring more people onto the high street looking for the right gift. With trading currently so tough for many retailers, they will no doubt be looking at days like Father's Day as an opportunity to stand out from the crowd and boost sales."
