BANT welcomes nutrition policy move from Food Standards Agency

21 July 2010

BANT welcomes the news that nutrition policy, health claims labelling and food supplements will move from the Food Standards Agency to the Department of Health.

Catherine Honeywell, chair, said "The disconnect between evidence for dietary guidelines and health claims labelling threatens to undermine public trust in 'expert' advice. Delivering sustainable public health will only come from motivating individuals to change behaviour which brings them positive results and allow them to thrive. Out-of-date one-size-fits-all approaches have been shown not to work: a new approach, based in science rather than dogma, offers huge potential for improving public health."
