ATL COMMENT ON SURE START CENTRES

4 March 2008

Nansi Ellis, acting head of education policy at the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), said:

“We are pleased the evaluation of Sure Start shows improvements in the benefits to children and their families in the local programme areas.

“Teachers know that children’s pre school experiences have a major impact on their ability to enjoy learning and to do well, so it is vital children and their families are supported as well as possible.

“We hope that the impact of sure start support will continue to be monitored carefully to ensure any benefits last well into children’s school careers.”
