ATL COMMENT ON OCR’S MISTAKE WITH MUSIC GCSE PAPERS

22 May 2008

Mary Bousted, Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) general secretary, said:

“Problems such as this, with the music GCSE papers having the answers on the back, are inevitable in an over-tested education system. Schools in this country spend £700 million a year on exam fees and invigilators, and mistakes like this will only increase while the Government continues to believe the only way to educate children is to test them. The review Ed Balls has ordered into the efficiency of the exam system cannot come quickly enough. But it must be part of a wider review into the burden of testing on pupils.”
