ATL COMMENT ON NEWS OF REVIEW INTO THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM

5 February 2008

Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) comment on the news the Children, Schools and Families Select Committee is going to hold an enquiry into the national curriculum.

Martin Johnson, ATL’s acting deputy general secretary, said: “This review is long over-due. It reflects the growing unease, both within schools and among education experts, about whether the current national curriculum is fit for purpose.

“We strongly believe it is not, because it is not giving students the skills they need.”
