ATL COMMENT ON APPLICATIONS TO UNIVERSITIES IN ENGLAND

14 February 2008

Dr Mary Bousted, Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) general secretary, said:

“It’s good to hear more working class students have applied to go to university in 2008, but for this to become a trend the Government must ensure there is sufficient funding to support poorer students and the availability of grants is well-publicised.

”We will be interested to find out what proportion of these students successfully complete their courses to see if the extra funding for this group is sufficient.”
