Age UK response to Hills interim review on fuel poverty

19 October 2011

Michelle Mitchell, Charity Director at Age UK says:

“This reinforces just how big a problem fuel poverty is and acknowledges that that it can have a devastating effect on peoples health and well being. People are cutting back on heating or food to help make ends meet at a time of escalating fuel prices. This increases the risk of many older people becoming seriously ill.

“We would like to give credit to John Hills for his thoughtful review on how to better measure fuel poverty and agree that this is vital to help solve the problem

“We look forward to seeing the full report next year but need more immediate clarity and detail on what help will be available through the Green Deal, particularly for people on low incomes, and a sensible long term ways of reducing energy bills.”
