Action To Tackle Antisocial Behaviour On Estates Is Stepped Up

COUNCIL tenants and leaseholders in Camden are reaping the benefits of five new dedicated antisocial behaviour advisors.

The advisors have now been in their new roles for a month providing a quicker and more consistent response to tenants’ crime and antisocial behaviour concerns.

The advisors’ role is to provide a more joined up and proactive approach to the way the Council tackles antisocial behaviour by ensuring all relevant agencies are working together and sharing intelligence. An example includes gathering together evidence from all relevant agencies to apply for an Antisocial Behaviour Order (ASBO) against a persistent drug user on an estate.

The advisors will also feedback to residents any positive news about action taken against those causing antisocial behaviour on the council’s housing estates. This could include the results of any recent undercover operations that have taken place.

The five advisors are based in each of the council’s district housing offices (DHOs). They will work alongside other staff in the DHOs and with police Safer Neighbourhood Teams.

Most recently the advisors have been helping out at Estate Action Days held across the borough.

As well as working with residents on council estates, they will also help council tenants and leaseholders living in street properties.

The dedicated advisors were appointed as part of the first phase of the housing management improvement project (1).

Cllr James King, Camden Council’s Executive Member for Community Safety and Housing Services, said:

“This is great news for tenants and leaseholders. The new advisors will be able to tackle antisocial behaviour on our estates faster and in a more coordinated way.

“These dedicated staff will be based on the front line within our housing estates. They can build strong relations with residents and the police, and use those local contacts to react quickly and effectively to problems as soon as they arise.”
