Press Release
ACE has answers at the Red-y for annual fundraising day
17th February 2009
Staff at the Association for Consultancy and Engineering once again dug deep to drum up funds for this year's Wear Red for RedR day on 13 February, and raised upwards of £100 to help the international humanitarian disaster relief charity. The final figure, nearly double the total raised in 2008, was tallied up from the staff at ACE, who paid to don as much red as they could find and took part in a "Really Red Quiz", which was all based around the colour red, as if you couldn't guess.
Prizes were not only dished out to ACE's policy manager Michael Hall, the runaway winner, but also to the most far-fetched or red-iculous answers given. Chris de Burgh's famous Lady in Red, for example, was believed by one culturally-challenged employee to have gone to number one in no less than 380 countries, a full 355 more than it actually did!
On such fine lines can success and failure hinge. But for RedR, the only charity ACE is officially involved with, every penny collected can help to make a substantial difference. The past year has seen an increase in the number of humanitarian crises across the globe and it is vital that RedR has the resources to respond to the growing need for more professional and efficient responses to disasters.
ACE chief executive Nelson Ogunshakin said it was important for firms in the sector to show their support for RedR and its work. "We are proud to be associated with the many positive activities RedR throws itself into with such verve and vigour", he said. "We hear much about the credit crunch and the financial strife affecting Britain at the moment but it is also healthy for us to remember how bad things could be if we were part of a community affected by one of the disasters or crises we see all too regularly on the news. RedR is doing a great job in helping to lessen the impact for so many communities who find themselves in the most devastating of situations."
Employees from 120 offices across Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and Australia wore red and organised red-themed activities in support of RedR for this year's Wear Red for RedR day. Their collective efforts are expected to give a huge financial boost to the charity's work."
