90 per cent 'friendship' approval for solicitors

      24 June 2010

Nine out of 10 people would recommend their solicitor to a friend, according to research conducted by leading market research agency GfK NOP.

The research was conducted to tie in with the launch of the Law Society's latest national advertising and PR campaign to promote solicitors to the public, which was launched on June 14th.

Before tackling on any legal issue, big or small, it is advisable to consult a specialist solicitor who will advise about rights and the options available. They will explain any relevant financial complexities and will help identify all the issues that need to be considered, sort the wheat from the chaff, give tactical advice and will probably save you time and money.

Law Society president Bob Heslett says: "Solicitors provide an expert service with good client care. It is to be expected that people will consult a friend at key points in their life and it is reassuring to get a recommendation for a sensible choice to help with important legal issues at a crucial life juncture. Whether it's buying a home, writing a will or getting a divorce it is essential to obtain expert legal advice so a solicitor can protect the best interests of a client and can identify and avoid any potential problems. Solicitors are the only sensible choice for consumers. They are experts in their field and more reliable than other providers of legal or quasi-legal services. Solicitors are not only properly regulated but are excellent value for money."

Linda Lee, Law Society vice president, says: "This research bears out what I have long believed about the excellence of the solicitors' profession. Throughout my presidential year, which begins in July, I will be emphasising the value that solicitors add in the business world, to individuals and to society as a whole."

If you do not already have a solicitor recommendation from a friend, call the Law Society on 0870 606 6575 or visit the Law Society website at www.lawsociety.org.uk and search under 'common legal problems to get details of solicitors in your area.
