Building equilibrium

Energy demands in synergy with living factors

To strive for low energy consumption without regard to how people live simply misses the point. In order to design for low energy the architect must take account of the changing demands from the users of the building.

Equilibrium must exist between the building and its users. It is important to note that as the external environment changes; daily, weekly, monthly and annually, so do the needs and aspirations of the user.

Human engagement is necessary to develop an active building that can cope with active living.

The liveability factors

The liveability factors

It is the equilibrium of climate and people that can deliver good low energy design. And it is the balance of the seasons with the internal climatic needs that can provide a comfortable and healthy building. Cold seasons demand internal heating and transversely hot seasons require internal cooling. A clever solution to low energy architecture is to balance these out and create an energy negative solution.
